On Saturday, Nov 28th, we hosted our first global Dribbble meetup at both the Tokyo and Berlin Goodpatch studios.
It was also the very first time for the Dribbble community to have the such meetup going on simultaneously in two different countries – connected live through Google Hangout.
What’s Dribbble?
For people who aren’t familiar with Dribbble, it’s a fast growing platform for talented designers around the world who publish their design work online everyday. A strict invitation system helps Dribbble to preserve a certain level of craftsmanship and maintain an active ecosystem of people who really care about contributing with their “work in progress” screenshots.
Why Goodpatch x Dribbble?
Goodpatch is a design firm with a particular focus on UI design and is quickly becoming one of the most important names in the Japanese startup ecosystem. We felt it would be a natural move to hold an official meetup for the community of people who share our love for interfaces.
We were able to have quite an interesting meetup, which included a one-hour shot contest with a group of brilliant designers.
To overcome the 8-hour time difference between Tokyo and Berlin we held the event on Saturday. Long story short: Saturday night Dribbblers in Tokyo had the chance to cross-review their work with Dribbblers in Berlin while having dinner (in Tokyo) and breakfast (in Berlin), respectively.
Shot contest in 80 mins
The shot contest presented the challenge of designing a dashboard UI in just 80 minutes. Goodpatch supplied a user story and the basic information to include and the participants created a smartphone dashboard UI within a 800×600 standard image size for Dribbble shots. More experienced designers also created animations and published an animated gif.

Our Berlin studio held a quick prototyping workshop for those who did not wish to join the contest.
See you soon!
There was a lot of learning and a lot of fun. In fact, we are already planning to hold another Dribbble meetup in 2016 — hopefully with more people, lightning talks, and an even more challenging contest! Thanks to all participants, to our internal facilitators, and to the support of the guys over at tokyographicdesigners.com that helped out with facilitation and generously provided prizes!
